Planning a wedding for many girls is something they have dreamed of for a very long time, others are overwhelmed by the process. Choosing your gown should be a memorable moment, one in which you can share your joy with your most important few. How to get the most of the experience? Here is advice from our stylists.
- Be open, open to silhouette, fabric, colour and detail! Especially your first time trying on gowns. A lot of the gals we work with, end up surprising themselves with the style of gown that they end up feeling most confident in. Think about it, when was the last time you tried on a $3000 gown? For most of us the answer is never. These dresses are made to make you look beautiful, they have so much structure and they accent all the right bits!! You will have a little bit more fun if you are open to experimenting with silhouette, so let us guide you through that first shopping experience.
- Discuss the budget!!! When you can get a wedding gown for $800 or $8000 in the same boutique knowing what you want to spend will first of all help to narrow your selection and secondly avoid the heartache of falling for the $8000 gown when that is just not feasible for you. Lets face it, weddings are expensive, no need to stretch the finances. We have 500 current wedding gowns in our store, we can make any budget work! We promise!
- Make an appointment. Shopping for a wedding gown is not something you can do without a consultant. There is a lot of knowledge that goes into our job and we love helping you. The dresses you are trying on are samples, that sample may not fit you so we will nip and tuck so that you get the visual of the perfectly fitted gown. It may not be the right colour, we know what other colours it can be ordered in, we know if the designer allows changes that might just make this the perfect gown for you! Also, each designer has their own delivery timeline, can we get the dress on time for your wedding? we know the answer to that! A big part of this is the experience and we want to provide that! An appointment is going to guarantee that you have a stylist to walk you through the process, get to know you and help you select the perfect gown. You and your tribe are making the trip in to see us, let us know in advance and we will be sure to take extra special care of you!
- Choose your shopping mates wisely. It is an emotional experience putting on wedding gowns for the first time, bringing 15 people with you may be too much for you. If you want or need to have everyone with you that is okay too, just maybe come with that one person you are most comfortable with first. We find the gals who make a “pre-shopping” shopping appointment end up thoroughly enjoying the larger group appointments, while the gals coming for the first time with everyone tend to get a bit more exhausted. It is a lot of work getting in and out of those gowns, and when everyone wants you to try their 5 picks at every shop you are going to be one tuckered out bride by days end! The first appointment is the most important (see point 1) you will go through a lot of info and learning, you are going to hopefully leave that appointment with an better idea of what you want to walk down the aisle in, if not already in love with a dress 😉 so when you come back with the crew you can be more specific to what you wish to try or just the favourites from your last visit!
- Lastly, give yourself time! You are engaged, you have a Fiance. Enjoy that, enjoy the planning, soak in these moments! Oh yeah, and wedding gowns can take 8 months to be custom made for you…so there is that! Yes, we have a large selection of dresses which means we can make any timeline work but what if you love that Pronovias Lace gown that comes from Spain? Sorry it will not be ready in 2 weeks, we really wish we could make that happen for you but that is beyond our magical stylist reach! Give yourself 10 months to order in a dress, that way that gown from Spain is doable, and you have a comfortable amount of time for alterations. Also, we do not want you to feel pressured to make a decision based on timeline. We know how big of a deal the gown is, we also know we have probably thrown you a curve ball by putting you in that ball gown you love so dearly when you pictured a fit and flare (see point 1) you need time to sleep on that decision and that is okay!
